I usually write about events I am attending that I think students or fellow educators would want to see. This time, I am both attending and presenting a short talk at the event. Even if I were not presenting, I would still be interested in attending because the line-up of speakers is excellent. Hence this post:

I will be speaking at Ignite LA about an ongoing web project I created, Mechanical Olympics, on Monday, June 7th. Register online for a ticket to attend this free event. If it is sold out, you can still show up because people frequently register for free online tickets, then fail to attend the event.

The idea of Ignite is to present a “trailer” for something interesting to the various geek communities in LA. There are a variety of groups, from Web hackers and VFX folks to Transhumanists to Digital Artists. But, the audience is comparatively tech-focused (Ignite).

Presentations are made by a select group of individuals. Each presentation is just 5 minutes – it is perfect for my short attention span friends and students. As the Ignite website states, presentations are:
5 Minutes. 20 Slides. 15 Seconds per Slide.

Ignite/LA takes place this Monday evening at:
V Lounge
2020 Wilshire Boulevard
Santa Monica, CA 90403-5608

If you’re tired of hearing me talk, you should come out to hear everyone else on the list! Doors open at 7:30, presentations begin at 8:30.
